When you visit Provins, you expect ramparts, knights, and medieval towers… but you might not think of stopping at the Tithe Barn. And yet, it was one of our favorite discoveries!

Right in the heart of the upper town, down a charming cobblestone street, this 13th-century building was once used to collect taxes in the form of goods – hence the name. Today, it’s an immersive museum that brings medieval Provins back to life.

As soon as you walk in, you’re transported to the world of the great medieval fairs. The space is set up as a series of scenes, each representing a different craft or merchant from the time: potters, fabric sellers, tanners, apothecaries… Everything is carefully reconstructed with costumes, décor, and lighting that makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time.

We visited with our 4-year-old, and he loved it! It’s not a dusty museum with glass cases – it’s a walk-through journey full of visuals, sounds, and little details to spark curiosity. In 20 minutes, you learn a lot while just enjoying the experience.

It’s the perfect visit for history lovers and curious families alike. And between bigger stops like Caesar’s Tower or the falconry shows, it offers a cool, quiet moment to dive into medieval daily life. A real hidden gem!

💡 Tip: Entry is included in the Provins Pass, which you can buy at the tourist office. It’s the best deal if you’re visiting several sites.
