A Hidden Alpine Treasure

S usa was a total surprise for us. Tucked away in the Italian Alps near the French border, it’s one of those places that doesn’t always make the headlines, but that’s exactly why it’s so special. It feels real. No massive crowds, no tourist traps—just an authentic Italian town with an old soul and an incredibly welcoming vibe.

Walking through Susa is like being in an open-air museum. You’re just wandering a cobblestone street and suddenly you’re standing in front of the Arch of Augustus from 8 BC. The Roman amphitheatre is still so well-preserved that it blew the kids' minds. It’s crazy to think these stones have been telling stories for over 2,000 years, and you can explore them at your own pace, without feeling rushed.

What we loved most was the balance between culture and mountain life. After visiting the San Giusto Cathedral, we just grabbed some gelato and enjoyed the mountain views. It’s a very laid-back place. If you’re into hiking or skiing, you’re in the perfect spot—resorts like Bardonecchia are just a short hop away.

And then there’s the food. Hearty mountain cheeses, fresh pasta, and that simple, honest flavor you only find in the Alps. If you want a piece of Italy that still feels true to itself, Susa is a gem you definitely shouldn't skip.
