"Summer Salads & People-Watching in Luxembourg"
It was one of those scorching 28°C days in the city where the only plan was to find some shade and a cold drink. We ended up at Le Grand Café, right in the thick of the Place d’Armes buzz.
Because of the heat, we weren't looking for anything heavy—just something crisp and cold. We went for the Fried Scampi Salad and their Seasonal Freshness Salad. The scampi were the highlight: that specific kind of golden crunch that actually stays crispy even with the dressing, popping against the cold, bitter greens. The other salad was exactly what you want when it's too hot to eat: bright, packed with snap-fresh vegetables, and enough zing in the vinaigrette to wake up the palate.
Now, the reality check: they don't take reservations. It’s a 'show up and hope' situation, which usually works if you’re early. And while the staff was friendly enough at the start, the kitchen was on 'island time.' It took a while for two salads to hit the table.
If you aren't in a rush and just want to people-watch with a great plate of scampi in the heart of Luxembourg, it’s a solid shout. Just don't go there if you're on a tight lunch break.
"A must-try for families looking for quality dining without sacrificing comfort."
