Our Getaway to Düsseldorf

A Modern, Family-Friendly, and Welcoming City

On our latest trip, we discovered Düsseldorf, a German city full of contrasts, blending tradition and modernity. It’s an ideal destination for families, even with a young child—and even with crutches.

A Vibrant and Easy-to-Explore City
Düsseldorf is, first and foremost, the Altstadt (Old Town), with its charming cobblestone streets. But it’s also a city looking toward the future, with futuristic buildings in the MedienHafen district and parks scattered throughout, perfect for taking a break with kids.

Our Favorite Activities

  • Stroll Along the Rhine: Wide sidewalks, a beautiful view, and a peaceful atmosphere—perfect for a family walk.
  • Japanese Garden in Nordpark: A zen spot, ideal for kids who love running through the grass.
  • Rheinturm (TV Tower): Stunning views of the city (fast elevator, accessible with a wheelchair or stroller).
  • Little Tokyo: Düsseldorf’s Japanese district, surprising and lively, with plenty of child-friendly Asian restaurants.
  • Schloss Benrath (Benrath Palace): A true pink palace surrounded by a large park perfect for kids. You can visit the museum (with an elevator) or simply stroll through the gardens.

Where to Eat with a Child in Düsseldorf?
During our stay, we tried several really nice spots, all accessible with a child and each offering a unique experience:

  • Dim Sum Gourmet: A perfect Asian break with tasty small dishes to share—the steamed bites were a real hit, even with the little ones!
  • Takumi 1st (Little Tokyo): Delicious ramen, a relaxed atmosphere, and fast service. A great spot for a stress-free meal.
  • El Lazo Steakhouse: For meat lovers, a friendly restaurant with generous portions. Kids are very welcome.
  • Nordpark Café (in Nordpark): Ideal for a sweet break or a light lunch after a walk in the park. The terrace is lovely on a sunny day.

Accessibility: Tested and Approved
With my 4-year-old and my crutches, I paid close attention to accessibility. Düsseldorf is very well-equipped: accessible public transport, elevators in main stations, and well-adapted hotels and restaurants. It’s reassuring and pleasant.

Where to Stay?
Here are two convenient and well-located options:

  • Me and All Hotel: Central, modern design, relaxed family vibe.
  • Hotel Nikko Düsseldorf: Very comfortable, close to Little Tokyo and public transport.
