Saint-Quiriace Collegiate

Saint-Quiriace Collegiate Church is a 12th-century structure located on the upper plateau of Provins. Construction began in 1160 but stopped in the late 13th century due to financial constraints. This resulted in an unfinished nave and a truncated western facade.

Architectural Data

The church interior includes a choir and a triforium. The architecture reflects the early Gothic style used in the Champagne region during the reign of Henry the Liberal. A wooden dome was added in the 17th century to replace the original central tower, which was destroyed by a fire in 1662.

Site Information

The building is a part of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Provins. It is located at the highest point of the town, adjacent to the Caesar Tower. The church remains an active parish site. The masonry at the western end of the building shows the unbonded stone where the nave construction was abandoned.
