Medieval Soul & Wild Nature

B ouillon is easily one of the most stunning spots in southern Belgium. It’s tucked right into a sharp bend of the Semois River, and honestly, the view when you arrive is like something out of a movie. You’ve got these deep Ardennes forests on all sides and a massive fortress looking down at you—it’s pure medieval atmosphere.

The whole town revolves around the legend of Godfrey of Bouillon. Walking through the castle ramparts, you can almost feel the history. It’s one of the best-preserved strongholds I’ve seen in Belgium. The underground tunnels are a bit eerie, but the view from the top of the walls over the valley makes it all worth it.

But don't just stick to the castle. If you want the "real" experience, you have to head up to the Belvedere. It’s a 30-meter climb, but the panorama of the river winding through the hills is unbeatable—total hiker's heaven.

The town itself has a great, laid-back vibe. Stone houses, riverside cafés, and that smell of local Ardennes ham and trout everywhere. Whether you’re there to kayak on the Semois or just wander through the old streets with a local beer in hand, Bouillon just feels right. It’s one of those rare places where history and nature actually meet in perfect harmony.
