Basilica of Saint-Sauveur
Saint-Sauveur is the most intriguing building in Dinan. Started in the 12th century after the Crusades, it refuses to stick to one style. Its asymmetrical facade is a rugged puzzle of Romanesque foundations, Gothic arches, and rare Byzantine influences—a stone diary of 800 years of Breton history.
The Heart of a Knight
Inside, the basilica holds a legendary relic: the heart of Bertrand Du Guesclin, the 14th-century "Eagle of Brittany." This famous knight fought for the French crown during the Hundred Years' War. While his body rests in Paris, his heart remains here, buried beneath a simple slab in the north transept.
A View Over Time
Located right next to the English Garden, the basilica overlooks the ramparts and the Rance valley. The interior, with its tall vaulted nave and intricate capitals, offers a silent, atmospheric refuge from the busy cobbled streets of the medieval town center.
